Happy Easter! Colin starts into his second Carrera Cup season

Hanover-based racing driver Colin Bönighausen will line up for the first time in the Proton Huber Competition team at Imola.

Colin’s journey in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland (PCCD) began last year at the famous Autodromo in Imola. With eight rookie podium finishes, the 20-year-old was able to provide several highlights in his debut year. Now he is starting his second season in the world’s most competitive one-make cup at the same venue. 31 (!) other drivers from twelve nations will line up to compete with him on the first of eight race weekends in the 2025 season. “I’m expecting an intensive season where I can take the next steps in my development,” says Bönighausen in the run-up to the season opener. The youngster proved his stamina off the track last weekend at the ADAC Marathon Hannover, which he completed over the full distance in under four and a half hours.

Colin Bönighausen took an important step in his motorsport career during winter by joining the renowned Proton Huber Competition team – once again demonstrating his ambition to compete with the best. Joining the top team from Lower Bavaria puts him on a level with what are currently probably the fastest drivers in the German Carrera Cup. All participants in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany drive identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars of the current generation. For the first time in 2025, all 911s will run on environmentally friendly synthetic fuel.

The two races in Imola will take place alongside the FIA World Endurance Championship, which runs a 6-hour race on Sunday. Despite the mixed weather forecast, many spectators can be expected along the beautiful circuit. The five-kilometre Formula 1 proofed track is surrounded by parkland and just a stone‘s throw from the centre of Imola. The risk of thunderstorms is currently high in Italy, and more rain showers are also expected around Imola this weekend. “You can‘t change the weather. Whoever can best adapt to it will be at the front of the race,” says Colin, who will also be competing in 2025 with starting number 55.

Colin Jamie Bönighausen („CJB“), born in Hanover (Germany) in 2005, has been involved in motorsport since he was ten years old. In winter 2024/2025, he successfully completed his apprenticeship as a plant mechanic. Like many racing drivers, the driver from Lower Saxony began his motorsport career in karting. The title in the ROK Cup Germany as well as numerous victories and top results in the ADAC Kart Masters and the Rotax Max Challenge highlight Colin’s career to date. In 2022, he switched from racing karts to racing cars. He celebrated immediate success in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car and won the Porsche Sprint Challenge Central Europe. In 2024, the 20-year-old contested his first season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. With eight podium finishes, he was among the best rookies. More at www.cjb-racing.de
