VPD RACING TEAM

The VPD Racing Team has been managed by the managing director of the Salzburgring Ernst Penninger for many years and sees itself as a training platform for young motorsport enthusiasts.
Penninger started his motorsport career more than 25 years ago as a kart driver and was able to celebrate some impressive successes, such as the title as Austrian Champion.
However, he quickly realized that he did not see his future on the track as an athlete, but rather as a doer in the pit lane. After his active career, he switched to a Swiss formula team, where he began as a wheel rim washer. Gradually he learned more until he was finally allowed to manage the entire logistics of the successful team. Here he got to know every aspect of the “motorsport” business down to the smallest detail and learned what it takes to be successful in motorsport.

He looked after international drivers from Formula Renault to Formula 1. This enabled him to immerse himself deeply in the subject of motorsport and learn a great deal about what is crucial in motorsport.

Based on the excellent contacts, he then founded his own VPD Racing Team together with the Red Bull Marketing Manager with the intention of seriously accompanying young drivers on their way.

The successful formula V=(p*d)2 was developed for his karting team. . V stands for Victory, i.e. success, which in summary depends on four components, namely on the one hand strong performance & power and on the other hand D squared Desire & Dedication, which stands for the desire & will with absolute commitment. The perfect interplay of these qualities together with a strong team is crucial for a successful path from the bottom to the top.

In karting, the development of young personalities is particularly important for the VPD Racing Team, because it is not about winning as many trophies as possible at the beginning of your career, but rather about the consistent and constant development of motorsport beginners.

Penninger and his team would like to prepare the drivers for what they will later face in motorsport. Karting is therefore the entry point, the first step in the direction of great motorsport, i.e. a school and training platform for young, talented but only aspiring racing drivers. The drivers first have to recognize whether they are ready to give everything for their vision.
Successful pilots from the team now benefit from what they have learned and live their big dream in series such as Formula 3, ADAC GT Masters and the Japanese Super GT Series.
Although Ernst Penninger is now the full-time managing director of the Salzburgring, he continues to look after his team on every free weekend. His stable and long-standing team motivates him just as much as the idea of further expanding the infrastructure and contacts and the joy of seeing how young people develop further. Because in the end it’s not just the success that counts, but above all the people…
