Colin Bönighausen with podium at Carrera Cup debut in Imola

The opening races of the world‘s most prestigious one-make cup in Imola last weekend fulfilled their promise: intense battles for position wherever you looked and action-packed motorsport at its best. For 19-year-old newcomer Colin Bönighausen, this is the next step on the steep career ladder after competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East this winter.
In the FIRE Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, prepared by CarTech Motorsport, Bönighausen managed to improve by four places in the second race. This meant 12th place out of 26 starters and a very good third place in the rookie category on his debut. At the same time, Bönighausen was also the best driver in his racing team. The duel with his Hanoverian local rival Janne Stiak, whom he overtook twice, was worth seeing: „Unfortunately, he was a bit faster than me in the end.“ What was still missing to be at the front? „You simply need more laps to be consistently fast. I lacked this experience after my early retirement on Saturday. I drove too hard over the kerb. Because the air pressure in the tyres was still low, the tyre slipped off the rim. That was obviously not what I expected from my first race in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.“
