Colin wants to “get to the point”

Second stop in the toughest one-make cup in the world: The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany comes to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for two championship rounds from May 8 to 10. This race promises to be another highlight in the still young racing career of Colin Bönighausen from Lower Saxony.

“I’m looking forward to racing at Spa again.” Spa – that’s Eau Rouge, that’s Michael Schumacher – that’s the pinnacle circuit on this year’s Porsche Carrera Cup Germany racing calendar. With its steep climbs, fast corners and famous sections such as Eau Rouge and Blanchimont, Spa challenges the drivers in a way that is second to none. Especially when you take a seat in a Cup Porsche with 500 hp, but without driving aids such as traction control or anti-lock brakes. All the better that Colin had already driven on the 7-kilometer track last year for a guest start in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. “It’s a track where experience helps.”

The 20-year-old pressed the reset button after the frustrating results at the season opener in Imola: “I probably went in with too many expectations and put myself under too much pressure.” Now Colin wants to regain his old strength: “See what works and just make the best of it.” The analysis with the engineers from his Proton Huber Competition team after the races in Italy was brief, partly because the situation was clear relatively quickly: “The speed was there, the sector times were at top 3 level – I just didn’t manage it in one piece.”

In any case, Colin can look back on a good result at Spa last year, where he was able to climb onto the podium as the second-best rookie. Untypically for Spa, which is located in a large forest area known as the Ardennes, it could remain dry throughout the coming weekend, but Colin knows: “The weather forecast doesn’t mean anything at Spa.” The weekend begins for Colin and the 31 other drivers on Thursday and ends on Saturday. Anyone who wants to follow the turquoise Porsche 911 GT3 Cup can do so again next weekend, either live on site or via YouTube.
