For <strong>Colin B\u00f6nighausen<\/strong>, it was the first time he had visited Bahrain: \u201cIt\u2018s all incredibly impressive with a huge airport, the circuit and a whole lot of fun!\u201d <strong>Colin<\/strong> shared the paddock with the factory teams and top drivers of the <strong>World Endurance Championship (WEC).<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cThe atmosphere is even more special, plus most of the time we drive under night conditions. It\u2018s different, the reference points change. But the track is very well floodlit, you can see just as well as during the day.\u201d<br \/>\nColin and his <strong>FIRE painted Porsche 911 GT3 Cup<\/strong>, prepared by <strong>Lechner Racing<\/strong>, were already at the top of the timesheets during the tests the previous week. \u201cBut it\u2018s only in qualifying before the race that everyone puts their cards on the table \u2013 only then you really know where you actually are!\u201c Colin\u2018s aim was to be within a second of the best and far more experienced drivers at the start of the season.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6196\" src=\"https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen-1536x1025.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In qualifying, he found himself just 99 hundredths of a second behind the fastest driver, <strong>Robert de Haan<\/strong> from the Netherlands.<br \/>\n<em>\u201cI was very nervous, but then I managed it well.\u201c<\/em> Due to the slightly worse starting position for the second race with 4th on the grid, <strong>Colin<\/strong> made the strategically clever decision to put on the new tyres in the first of the two races. After a good start, <strong>B\u00f6nighausen<\/strong> was even able to keep the race leader <strong>De Haan<\/strong> under pressure at times. However, Colin used the tyres a little too much: <em>\u201cThat\u2018s still part of the learning process, which is why I\u2018m here to gain this experience.\u201c<\/em> However, second place on his debut is a decent result. <strong>FIRE Racing<\/strong> driver <strong>B\u00f6nighausen<\/strong> was happy: <em>\u201cMy team and I came here with completely different <\/em><em>expectations, so I\u2018m very satisfied.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\nHowever, the 18-year-old paid the price right at the start of race two: <em>\u201cI had expected more grip, braked too late with the used tyres and the wheels stopped immediately without the ABS.\u201c<\/em> A competitor was spun around, and <strong>Colin<\/strong> was given a time penalty: <em>\u201cI apologised to the other driver straight away.\u201c<\/em> The next opportunity for <strong>Colin<\/strong> to gain experience will be in Bahrain one week before Christmas (15th and 16th of December).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6198\" src=\"https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen2.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cjb-racing.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/colin-boenighausen2-1536x1025.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>This is Porsche Carrera Cup:<\/h4>\n<p>The <strong>Porsche Carrera Cup<\/strong> is the most competitive one-make championship in the world. Before <strong>Colin B\u00f6nighausen<\/strong> from Lower Saxony competes in the German championship for the first time next spring, the <strong>FIRE Porsche 911 GT3 Cup<\/strong> car will be seen in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. In the <strong>Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East<\/strong>, which is being held for the first time this winter, drivers from three continents compete to crown the winter champion.<\/p>\n<h4>About Colin B\u00f6nighausen:<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Colin Jamie B\u00f6nighausen<\/strong> (\u201eCJB\u201c), born in Hanover (Germany) in 2005, has been involved in motorsport since he was ten years old. He is currently undergoing apprenticeship training to become a plant mechanic. Like many racing drivers, the driver from Lower Saxony began his motorsport career in karting. The title in the ROK Cup Germany as well as numerous victories and top results in the <strong>ADAC Kart Masters<\/strong> and the <strong>Rotax Max Challenge<\/strong> highlight Colin\u2018s career to date. In 2022, he switched from racing karts to racing cars. He celebrated immediate success in the <strong>Porsche 911 GT3 Cup<\/strong> car and won the <strong>Porsche Sprint Challenge Central Europe<\/strong> in both the Sprint and Endurance classifications. The 18-year-old is currently competing in the <strong>Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East<\/strong> before stepping up to the <strong>Porsche Carrera Cup Germany<\/strong> in 2024.
