Colin Jamie Bönighausen can look back on his 2019 season with satisfaction, he was not only able to manage the ascent from the OK juniors to the seniors in the best possible way and without any major problems, but also achieved first international successes. As a rookie, he demonstrated his skills in the national ADAC Kart Masters series as well as the international German Kart Championship. The big highlight in 2019 was certainly the title win in the national Rok Cup Germany and the associated qualification for the Rok Cup International Final in Lonato, Italy.

While CJB is slowly but surely preparing for the 2020 season, the future planning in Team Bönighausen is in full swing. For father Klaus, the focus is not on short-term success, the medium-term motorsport path of his son is much more thought through until the final entrance into the big motorsport. With a consistent plan and the necessary calm, top-class partners have been found for the further course of action, who will accompany and promote the path of the young motorsport talent.

Ernst Penninger, owner of the VPD Racing team, is looking forward to working together: "After we were able to support Colin with the preparation of his engines in the Rotax Max Challenge a few years ago, we are of course very pleased to integrate him completely into our team. Colin has developed very well over the last two years through his intensive and high-quality program and gained a lot of experience also on international level."

In the VPD Racing Team, the young Hanoverian wants to take the next step in karting directly, after only one year in the OK-senior area he is already moving to the top class of karting, the class of shift karts, for the 2020 season. Here he will take part in the team's internal test drives, as in January 2020 in Jesolo, Italy, before he will compete in the first races in nearby foreign countries. With his sixteenth birthday he enters the national racing series, planned for the current year are guest starts in the ADAC Kart Masters or the DMSB Schaltkart Cup.

Penninger wants to support the 15-year-old in this way: "Our task now is to train him in the best possible way as he continues to become a professional racer and to support him in his racing careers. We see the 2020 season as a training year, because the transition to the shift kart class is not an easy one, especially since there are very experienced drivers at the start. This year is a matter of developing technical understanding and driving style in the best possible and high-efficient way in order to recommend itself for the switch into the automobile race sport though good results and professional appearance, in the following year."

In the following two years, Bönighausen not only plans to participate in the DSKC, but also international guest appearances at the World and European Championships are on the agenda of the ambitious pilot.

In addition to karting as a base, CJB is supposed to get used to automobile sports in a Formula 4 vehicle and slowly be introduced to this new challenge. Because the Bönighausen family does not want to leave anything to chance, such a Bolide was quickly purchased. This means that it is always possible to carry out testing and setting trips. Individual trips on racetracks or airports are planned here for the 2020 season.

However, the main focus and thus the focus of future planning is in the entry into the GT motorsport and this best already in 2022. For this purpose, several test drives have already been organized and  successfully  carried out. Due to the good experience of the past years, the partner for the Formula 4 and GT4 division remains to be the Lechner Racing School.

Klaus Bönighausen can be satisfied with his plans: "With the VPD Racing Team and the Lechner Racing School, we have found two very strong partners for the promotion into motorsport. All parties know each other well and can therefore work hand in hand without any problems."

Ernst Penninger concludes: "There is a lot of work ahead of us, but we are highly motivated and look positively into the future to achieve Colin’s goals with him"
